New Climategate Development

UPDATE: this news is being discussed at the BishopHill blog here

.

Aggregator/blogger Tom Nelson has published a longish letter from the person who says s/he is responsible for making the Climategate e-mails public.

The last round of Climategate documents was accompanied by an enormous, password-protected file of still-unreleased material. That password has now been supplied to Nelson – who confirms that it opens the file.

Nelson has already done an enormous amount of work sifting through previous Climategate material – see here.

I find this part of the letter of particular interest:

The Republicans didn’t plot this. USA politics is alien to me, neither am I from the UK. There is life outside the Anglo-American sphere.

Just this morning I read about a new bit of research that apparently concludes that conservative US think tanks are responsible for people writing climate skeptic books in other countries.

I’m a huge fan of America. But it is not the center of the universe. As a Canadian author of a book that doesn’t toe the we’re-all-going-to-die-from-climate-change line I can’t tell you how offensive that idea is.

Boy, you sure are more conservative than you were when you were a kid. Is it O.K. if I call you “Mr. Conservative? (Just kidding) The only way to know whether Bush would do the same things that Hitler did, would be to give Bush the kind of unlimited dictatorial powers Hitler had….. Then I suppose you would find out. I would guess that if you took almost anyone and gave them that kind of power, that they would be as bad as any dictator. Power corrupts, but impotence does also. Many people abuse power out of a fear of impotence and humiliation. It causes them to do extreme things to sate the “power process.” Wealthy politicians do these things out of the same fear of impotence or humiliation, not just disempowered people. Joseph Mengele did almost all of the horrible medical experiments, this was mostly done at Dauchau. (sp?) It is not known how much Hitler knew about these experiments. Joseph Mengele was a Romany Gypsy, where if he did not have M.D. skills or social position, he could have ended up in the camps himself. This highlights that anyone can abuse power. The problem with Bush’s policies of unilateralism and imperialism, is that it is making us a LOT of enemies. Not just Arabs, but also Europeans. We need to be friends with Europe, and I agree with them that there was really no reason for this Iraq War. If Europe decided to enact trade boycotts, disinvest, and devalue our currency in relation to theirs, they could destroy our economy. They are already doing this by helping countries to drop “petro-dollars” for “petro-euros.” Russia could so similar things. The only rational for the war is that the world will run out of oil in 2015, and there is global competion for scarce oil resources. So maybe some elites got scared and wanted to get Iraq’s oil. But in the next two years, the price of oil could skyrocket to unsustainable levels to power our economy anyway, or create petrolium products. (Virtually everything) Despite my nihilistic rants in the past, I believe that violence and war should be a last resort. If we keep up our violence and divisiveness, there will be no world left anyway, much less America.
